HITIQ (HIQ) has signed an agreement with the United Rugby Championship (URC) that will see its Nexus technology trialled by six participating teams.

Under the agreement, the company will provide 160 units across the six participating teams who will utilise the Nexus system for the remainder of the 2022-23 URC season ending in May 2023 under a non-commercial, trial period.

The partnership extends HITIQ’s technology footprint into the European and African elite rugby markets.

The technology will give the medical and performance staff of the participating URC teams objective insight into the frequency and intensity of head impacts.

The data collected can then be used to assist in the identification of head impact exposure rates in playing positions, training drills and individual players.

“In a contact sport it is vital to mitigate risks where possible and put a priority on player welfare,” URC CEO Martin Anayi.

“It is vital to the sustainability of rugby that we utilise every tool at our disposal to protect our athletes where possible, and hopefully the result of this partnership will bring benefits to players right across our sport in the future and will assist our incredible medical staff throughout our league to support recovery for players who sustain a head injury.”

The URC boasted a viewership of more than 34 million during its 2022 inaugural season.

Shares in HITIQ were last trading at three cents at 3:15 pm AEDT.
