The Homicide Squad has been called to Pilbara Minerals’ project to investigate a death in the region.

Yesterday Pilbara Minerals reported an incident, not related to mining operations, at its Pilgangoora Lithium-Tantalum Project, about 130 kilometres from Port Headland.

On arrival, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Western Australian Police Greg Knott confirmed the death of a man in his 40s.

“The man’s death is being treated as suspicious,” he said.

The Western Australia Police said a 30-year-old man is in custody and is assisting police with the investigation.

Pilbara Minerals said it is also helping the police with investigations into the incident.

Managing Director Ken Brinsden is extremely shocked and saddened on what has occurred at Pilgangoora.

“At this difficult time, our focus is on ensuring that our people are cared for and supported, while we continue to support the police investigation that is currently underway,” Ken said.

“On behalf of Pilbara Minerals, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the affected people and their families,” he added.

Pilbara Minerals said it is doing everything it can to support the wellbeing of its workers at this difficult time.

Following the release of this announcement yesterday, Pilbara Minerals requested a trading halt but it has been lifted this morning.

Pilbara Minerals is up slightly this morning, trading at 33 cents apiece at 11:10 am AEDT.
