The handheld system, developed by Strategic Elements’ wholly owned venture Stealth Technologies, is designed to capture and analyse spatial information underground, where GPS and reliable network connectivity can be unavailable.

EdgeiQ Portable combines LiDAR scanning, 3D mapping, spatial positioning and onboard computing to process information directly on the device, eliminating the need for internet connectivity or external cloud computing.

The technology has undergone five underground field trials with a Tier 1 mining company, providing the technical foundation for the newly launched commercial pilot program. Strategic Elements said discussions have commenced with prospective mining sector partners regarding revenue-generating pilot deployments.

The company is also developing an AI module that could add predictive capabilities to the existing EdgeiQ Portable hardware. It has now successfully demonstrated an initial AI model running directly on the handheld device.

“

After years of building and validating the underlying sensing, processing and computing technology, we believe Stealth has reached an important inflection point.

”
– Managing Director Charles Murphy

Working with Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines, Stealth successfully deployed the model onto existing EdgeiQ Portable hardware, with initial test outputs generated in around 100 milliseconds per inference.

Strategic Elements said a Tier 1 mining company has also approved access to operational mining data, with data supply now underway to support further AI development during the fourth quarter of 2026.

A potential underground field trial is targeted for the first quarter of 2027, subject to technical progress and partner site access.

The company already has a commercial contract for its fixed-site EdgeiQ OnSite product with a major global gold producer for underground haulage measurement and analysis.
