Junior explorer Iceni Gold (ICL) has discovered a two-kilometre-long gold anomaly through Ultrafine (UFF+) soil sampling work at its 14 Mile Well project near Laverton in WA.

The anomaly, dubbed Burges Bore, lies within the Guyer Well target area of the project — one of seven key target areas Iceni is exploring using geophysics, UFF+ soil sampling, and aircore and diamond drilling.

The company said the anomaly correlated with a structural intersection on the southeastern end of the Danjo Batholith in the area, supporting the prospectivity of the nearby Guyer Trend.

Essentially, Iceni said this new gold soil anomaly created fresh drilling opportunities for the company in a new prospect area that remained “significantly underexplored”.

It marks the eighth new coherent gold anomaly identified by Iceni from UFF+ soil sampling within the 14 Mile Well project area.

According to Iceni, CSIRO started conducting UFF+ sampling in the 14 Mile Well project area over four years ago as part of a research program. To date, 16,000 UFF+ samples have been taken from the area.

The UFF+ method is designed to target ultra-fine soil particles less than two microns in size. These particles have more surface area on which they can collect gold and other metals moving through the environment.

Iceni said it now planned to conduct follow-up on-ground exploration work over the newly-discovered UFF+ anomaly.

Shares in Iceni Gold were up 5.08 per cent to 6.2 cents at 2:36 pm AEDT.
