Sustainable technology company, Integrated Green Energy Solutions, is working on implementing its business into Thailand and Hong Kong. The company is said to have identified the two countries as being in severe need of its plastic recycling technology.

IGES focuses on clearing plastic from landfill and the environment and turning it into a valuable resource. The company specialises in forming a variety of fuels from end-of-life plastics, which are no longer recyclable. In this case, IGES will turn plastic into road ready fuel.

According to IGES, it is the only company which can produce “road-ready fuels from the end of life plastics without further refinement, blending or processing.” The types of fuel the company can create include; naphtha, marine fuel, marine diesel oil, road ready diesel and road ready petrol.

IGES has identified Thailand as being supportive of its business model and the nation’s government as being supportive of its project, alongside the environmental need for the company’s technology.

To demonstrate why Thailand would benefit from IGES’s technology, the company used the statistic of Thailand producing 1.03 million tonnes of plastic waste each year alongside Thailand being ranked the sixth largest ocean plastic waste generator and their plastic usage is growing 12 per cent each year.

Through outlining these figures, the company said it is essential the country takes action to combat their plastic waste contribution.

In Hong Kong the company are in a joint venture with local recycling company Telford Envirotech. Here IGES will establish a 200 tonne per day recycling plant located in Hong Kong’s EcoPark, to produce 70 million litres of road ready fuel annually.

The company has received confirmation from consulting companies, following an environmental feasibility study, that the proposed plant is fit for purpose. IGES said the next step is environmental permitting and designing.
