Invictus Energy (IVZ) has appointed John Bentley as Non-Executive Chairman.

Mr Bentley has more than 40 years’ experience in international natural resource development, with a specific focus on Africa’s upstream oil and gas industry.

He has held executive and board roles in exploration and production (E and P) companies including Vanco Energy Company, FirstAfrica Oil and Wentworth Resources.

“I am pleased to join Invictus Energy at an extremely exciting time for the company, following its successful maiden exploration campaign in Zimbabwe’s Cabora Bassa basin, which confirmed a working hydrocarbon system,” Mr Bentley told investors.

“I look forward to building on this success as the company prepares for further appraisal at Mukuyu, while it holds a portfolio of exciting exploration prospects and leads, which have been significantly de-risked through the recent drilling campaign.”

The role comes with a base fee of £50,000 (A$87,300) per annum, along with three million options exercisable at 23 cents each, on or before July 2024.

A total of seven million performance rights split into two classes will also be converted into ordinary shares, subject to various vesting hurdles.

“We are delighted to welcome John to the board of Invictus and his outstanding track record of success in the E and P sector across Africa will be pivotal during the next exciting phase of Invictus’ development as a company,” Invictus Managing Director Scott Macmillan said.

John Bentley will officially step into the role from February 1.

Invictus Energy was up 6.25 per cent, trading at 17 cents at 5:52 pm AEDT.
