iTech Minerals (ITM) has produced spherical and flake graphite with a 99.99 per cent purity from the Campoona graphite project in South Australia.

Testwork was undertaken on a 407-kilogram run-of-mine sample of graphite ore collected from reverse circulation and diamond drilling.

The drill holes were within areas of low strip ratio mineralisation of prime economic interest.

The purity, tap density, fraction size and ratio are all within industry standard guidelines for a medium-sized spherical graphite product.

A high yield of 47 per cent spherical product was achieved, showing the potential for high conversion of flake into high-value spherical graphite.

“These results demonstrate that Campoona has the potential to produce a high value spherical graphite, from an Australian project in a state with significant production of renewable energy and excellent infrastructure,” Managing Director Mike Schwarz said.

“The use of non-HF methods, such as caustic baking to purify the concentrate, add further weight to the projects green credentials which we believe will help us produce a premium
product for the renewable energy markets.”

iTech is now investigating the best path to produce green graphite.

Further, the company is planning a major drilling program at the Sugarloaf graphite prospect and the Lacroma electromagnetic anomaly, both of which have the potential to substantially support a mineral resource upgrade.

iTech was up 16.2 per cent on the market with shares trading at 39.5 cents at 11:40 am AEST.
