Jervois Global (JRV) will officially open its Idaho Cobalt Operations (ICO) mine site near Salmon, Idaho in the US today.
The mine is commencing a commissioning phase during October, with equipment undergoing final completion testwork ahead of continuous commercial concentrate production, which is expected across Q4 2022.
Once fully commissioned, ICO will be the only primary cobalt mine in the US.
Jervois said the concentrate produced from the mine would be refined into the critical metal necessary for electric vehicles, energy generation and distribution, defence and other industries.
The company said its strategy at ICO through the development, upcoming mine operations and, in future years, rehabilitation phases was to ensure that Idaho’s “pristine” natural environment, including its waterways, wilderness and air quality, remained protected.
Jervois said the ICO would advance its strategy of becoming a supplier to the US auto industry in establishing a competitive and secure battery minerals supply chain.
Full nameplate capacity remains expected by the end of Q1 2023.
Shares in Jervois were up 0.33 per cent and trading at 60 cents at 11:28 am AEST.
