Kaoko Metals (ASX: KAO) has expanded its diamond drilling program at the Chalkos Copper-Silver Project in Namibia to at least 15,000 metres, while new surface copper mineralisation has extended the Donkey Hill trend by more than 700 metres.
The explorer said the expanded Otniel program follows the initial drilling campaign, with five diamond holes now completed and a sixth hole, DDOT006, in progress.
The company said the decision to expand drilling is underpinned by visual copper mineralisation observed in the first two holes.
Assay results from the first two holes are expected in approximately two to three weeks, with samples from completed holes being progressively submitted to ALS in South Africa for expedited analysis.
At the same time, fieldwork at Donkey Hill East has identified additional surface copper mineralisation, including a rock chip sample grading more than 50% copper. Sample Z2516 exceeded the assay method’s upper reporting limit, according to Kaoko.
The discovery has extended the known mapped surface copper trend at Donkey Hill East by more than 700 metres, taking the total mapped surface expression across Donkey Hill to more than 1.5 kilometres.
A second diamond drill rig has now been mobilised to Donkey Hill, with drilling commencing this week. Kaoko’s Managing Director and Chief Geologist are also due to travel to Namibia in late September to oversee the expanded drilling program.
The company’s next steps include continuing drilling at both Otniel and Donkey Hill, progressing laboratory analysis of completed holes and conducting further geological mapping and surface sampling.
