Mineral exploration company KGL Resources has begun the first phase of drilling at the Amigo Prospect. The prospect resides in the company’s fully owned Jervois Copper Project, located north-east of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

Initial drilling intercepted copper sulphide mineralisation and different levels of chalcopyrite mineralisation. These results were taken from the shallowing drilling of five holes in the Amigo Prospect.

Despite the beginning of exploration at the Amigo Prospect, KGL said its priority will remain at the Rockface and Reward prospects, also located within the Jervois Copper Project. Infill resource drilling will continue at Rockface and Reward ahead of proposed new project developments. Amigo was selected for drilling targets due to its comparable geology to Rockface.

The company said drilling at sites such as the Amigo Prospect is useful in bettering its understanding of the land which falls under the Jervois Project. According to KGL, the drilling at the Amigo Prospect in-between Resource drilling programs increases the company’s efficiency.

The results from Amigo show traces of copper in the gossans and “garnet-chlorite alteration at the surface”. Along the strike length plenty of magnetite-iron-bearing quartzites were identified.

Since acquiring the Jervois Base Metal Project in 2011, KGL has increased the proposed resource to 25.2 million tonnes, which includes 384,800 tonnes of copper. The company have used Down Hole Electromagnetic surveying and drilling at the Rockface and Reward prospects. Results from Rockface have shown a 95 per cent recovery rate at 25 per cent concentrate grade.
