Kingwest Resources (KWR) has completed first pass aircore nickel sulphide drilling on the Highway Ultramafic zone at the Lake Goongarrie Project in Western Australia.

The company drilled 223 holes for 7788 metres to confirm the precise location of the Highway Ultramafic beneath the lake cover in the area and to establish the exact position of the most nickel-prospective eastern basal contact.

The drilling also aimed to confirm the presence of anomalous nickel-cobalt grades reported from previous drilling and confirm the aeromagnetic interpretation of a number of outlying geological features.

Assays are pending for all holes and, once received, they will be reviewed in order to plan follow-up exploration programs.

These programs may include further drilling as well as moving loop electromagnetic (MLEM) surveys over selected sections of the Highway Ultramafic which are determined to have the best chance of hosting nickel sulphide deposits.

Furthermore, Kingwest is set to undertake a maiden 4000-metre diamond core drilling program at the nearby Sir Laurence gold discovery in the upcoming weeks. Hole depths will range from 200 metres to 450 metres.

CEO Ed Turner said the company is pleased to have completed drilling at Goongarrie.

“We are very pleased to have completed our first exploration drilling programme for nickel sulphide mineralisation within our Lake Goongarrie Project,” he said.

“Assay results are eagerly anticipated given that limited widespread historic drilling has already revealed anomalous nickel assays on several drill lines.

“In addition, I look forward to the inaugural diamond core drill testing of the Sir Laurence gold discovery which will commence in several weeks’ time.”

Kingwest was down 5.71 per cent with shares trading at 16 cents at 12:22 pm AEDT.
