Space technology company Kleos Space’s (KSS) new development tech will be launched onboard a spacecraft.
The new technology is a data collecting software and will be installed to the In-Space Missions Faraday-1 spacecraft, which will be launched in New Zealand on July 3.
Kleos says the launch is a significant step for the company on its research and development roadmap. Additionally, this launch will also complement the Kleos Scouting Mission.
Scouting mission
The company is currently awaiting the launch of the scouting mission. That mission will launch four satellites into space from India.
Kleos space missions are aimed at uncovering hidden maritime activity, such as illegal fishing, smuggling and trafficking. Key regions include Strait of Hormuz, South China Sea and the African coast.
Earlier this year the company announced it is aiming to launch a second cluster of satellites.
Faraday-1
The mission to space covers two years, and throughout that time Kleos will observe the Earth in a polar orbit.
The company will use a Software-defined radio (SDR), which is in the form of a computer, that will be able to process signals received by the antenna. SDR’s are located on all of Kleos’ satellites.
The payload on the in-space Faraday satellite will provide a wide-area surveillance.
