Lachlan Star Ltd (ASX:LSA) has intersected copper grading at more than 11% through a maiden diamond drilling program at its Junee Project in New South Wales, with assay results providing more evidence of high-grade copper sulphide mineralisation.
The company completed six diamond holes at the Basin Creek prospect, with two of these yielding results such as 79.20 metres at 0.52% Cu (copper) from 12 metres, including 0.75 metres at 11.76% Cu from 90.45 metres in one hole; with results from the second hole including 20.50 metres at 0.45% Cu from 20 metres, and 14.70 metres at 0.28% Cu from 50 metres.
Also observed was a high-grade internal intercept of 16.50% copper over 0.25 metres and 9.39% copper over 0.50 metres.
In a reflection of previous work hinting at copper sulphide mineralisation, what was found here indicated the presence of lenses of semi-massive chalcopyrite returning high-grade intercepts within a broader envelope of low-to-moderate grade disseminated chalcopyrite and bornite-chalcocite.
The continuity and down-plunge extents of the larger disseminated-to-veined copper sulphide (chalcopyrite, bornite and chalcocite) mineralisation, in addition to the presence of high-grade semi-massive chalcopyrite as lenses of vein breccia and fracture-controlled infill have been confirmed by the six-hole program.
Lachlan Star CEO Andrew Tyrrell said he was looking forward to what this program will bring, given what had already been yielded in the intercepts.
“These are exciting results which confirm the earlier visual observations of copper sulphide
mineralisation,” he said.
“This gives us confidence the remaining diamond holes will also yield significant results, thereby enhancing our understanding of the broader prospectivity of the Basin Creek copper system.”
Lachlan Star has been trading at eight cents.
