Lake Resources (LKE) has “successfully” completed stage one lithium extraction and injection testing at its Kachi lithium brine project in Argentina’s Catamarca Province.

The trial confirmed the viability of producing high-purity battery-grade lithium carbonate, as pumping tests demonstrated favourable hydrogeologic conditions for brine extraction.

Collected data from the tests will inform hydrogeological models crucial for planning extraction and injection wellfields for commercial operation.

Pumping and re-injection tests were conducted in test wells KB and KC within the project’s central area.

Testing involved successfully injecting more than 33 million litres of water and revealed improved lithium concentration in brine chemistry samples.

From the 25 samples across the two wells, the average lithium concentration was measured at 263 milligrams per liter (mg/l).

“The tests represent a significant milestone for the project, as they provide important data and higher confidence for our modelling, which is essential for the completion of our DFS for phase one,” LKE CEO David Dickson said.

“The results are indicative of high-yield, production-scale, extraction wells in the core resource area.”

The next steps for the company include crafting a detailed wellfield and injection design to support the definitive feasibility study, ultimately leading to hydrogeologic model development.

LKE shares were up 27.4 per cent, trading at 26.8 per cent at 2:15 pm AEST.
