Legend Mining (LEG) has intersected “genuinely exciting rocks” at the Mawson prospect within its Rockford project in WA’s Fraser Range.

The company has been completing exploration work at Mawson, including diamond drilling to test areas identified from a 3D seismic survey, associated downhole electromagnetic surveys and physical property surveys.

One hole intersected mineralised chonolith and metasedimentary packages above the Mawson fault. Below the fault, the drilling unearthed narrow veins of cross-cutting massive sulphide mineralisation.

Further data analysis of the hole is now underway, including structural vectoring and additional drilling, to refine the new target zone, along with petrophysical property measurements with hand-held and downhole instrumentation.

Meanwhile, a second drill hole — designed to interrogate an area of seismic signature — intersected a mineralised mafic intrusive package. This confirmed the chonolith extends at depth, as predicted by the 3D seismic survey.

Legend Managing Director Mark Wilson said the company struck some genuinely exciting rocks in the latest two diamond drillholes at Mawson.

“These drillholes are further evidence of the value of the 3D seismic data as well as validation of the size and prospectivity of the Mawson intrusion,” Mark Wilson said.

“We are gaining valuable geological information from diamond holes drilled to date, and the extent of this information will only be fully understood once all follow up structural, geological, DHTEM and assay results are received.”

Downhole electromagnetic survey results and assays from the recent Mawson exploration work are still pending.

Legend Mining last traded at 5.2 cents on July 28.
