Legend Mining (LEG) has received the initial results from diamond drilling at the Octagonal and Magnus prospects.

Both prospects are part of the Rockford Project which lies in the highly prospective Fraser Range district of Western Australia.

It covers a total area of 3088 square kilometres and exploration is primarily focused on magmatic nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation.

Drilling began in mid-August to test a combination of geological and geophysical targets.

Octagon

Work at the Octagonal Prospect intersected multiple intervals of massive, semi-massive and dispersed pyrrhotite-pentlandite-chalcopyrite sulphides.

Mineralisation is discontinuous, however it demonstrates the characteristics of a fertile nickel-copper sulphide system.

The first hole, OCDD001, targeted fixed-loop transient electromagnetic (FLTEM) and down-hole transient electromagnetic (DHTEM) plates.

This hole intersected a hanging-wall sequence of metasedimentary country rocks to 492 metres.

It then intersected coarse-grained norite from 535 metres before hitting a unit with matrix sulphides at 541.6 metres.

Between 545.2 metres and 545.5 metres, Legend intersected a zone of semi-massive sulphides. Ultimately, it ended in intrusive to the end of hole at 687.2 metres.

Results from this hole confirm Octagonal is a large and fertile nickel-copper intrusive system.

Magnus

Hole MGDD001 was the first-ever diamond hole drilled into the Magnus intrusion and was designed to target a gravity feature and test below anomalous aircore geochemistry.

It intersected highly prospective mafic and ultramafic mineralisation from 173.65 metres to 597.3 metres.

Further work will be undertaken with a focus on testing for economic accumulations of nickel-copper sulphides at depth.

Managing Director Mark Wilson commented on the drilling program.

“The diamond hole at Octagonal essentially confirms that Octagonal is another large fertile intrusion, as is Mawson,” Mr Wilson said.

“Legend is in the enviable position of now having two locations to focus its exploration efforts to find the next nickel copper mine in the Fraser Range.

“Magnus is very much a work in progress, with the first-ever deep hole into the intrusion confirming the right host rocks for the nickel-copper mineralisation we are looking for.”

Legend was down 1.43 per cent on the market with shares trading at 6.9 cents at 11:43 am AEST.
