Los Cerros (LCL) has struck up to 26.6 grams of gold per tonne (g/t) at its Miraflores resource within its Quinchia project in Colombia.

A drill hole at Miraflores was first commissioned on the back of encouraging results from two very deep holes drilled earlier this year. The company said this suggests the mineralisation at Miraflores may extend beyond the base of the envelopes established back in 2017.

The hole passed through altered wall rock basalts before entering mineralised breccia at 151.6 metres and continued through the breccia pipe for a total of 519.1 metres, ending at 670.7 metres in hydrothermal breccia.

The drilling returned results including 1.7 metres at 26.6 g/t gold, remaining open at depth.

Further visible gold was sighted from 600 metres downhole, with results including 0.4 metres at 1.47 g/t gold from 608.75 metres, and 1.4 metres at 1.68 g/t gold from 614 metres.

The company said the presence of visible gold and certain breccia textures is indicative of a deeper gold mineralised boiling zone.

“Whilst gold values in QMDH61 were mostly low grade, it is encouraging to intercept depth extensions of mineralised veins and ore shoots that are major contributors to the Miraflores Resource,” Los Cerros Managing Director Jason Stirbinskis said.

“The possibility of another boiling zone, like the zone in which much of the Miraflores high grade occurs, has the potential to significantly enhance the Miraflores Resource and warrants further investigation.”

The hole marks the final target of an 80 hole, 37,000-metre diamond core drilling program at Quinchia over three years.

Los Cerros shares were trading steady at 2.9 cents at 10:33 am AEST.
