Talga Group (TLG) has received a major permitting milestone for its Vittangi graphite project, located in Norrbotten County, Sweden.
The Swedish Land and Environment Court in Umeå has announced the progression of the permit application and provided a timetable for the next steps.
The environmental permit application for a graphite mine and concentrator at the Nunasvaara South deposit of the Vittangi project was submitted in May 2020.
During the process, Talga has worked cooperatively with the court to ensure the environmental application meets the high standards required by Swedish authorities.
Based on the court’s announcement, public statements regarding the application need to be submitted by June 23, 2022, and a formal hearing is planned for the European autumn 2022. This hearing is the final step before the court hands down its decision
The initial graphite project operation, fed from the Nunasvaara South mine, is planned to produce 19,500 tonnes per annum of its flagship battery anode product, Talnode-C, over 24 years.
Managing Director Mark Thompson said he was “very pleased to attain this milestone in the permitting process.”
“Now more than ever the need for secure, local and green graphite anode is critical for the building of lithium-ion battery value chains,” he said.
“Following years of diligent work and investment in the unique graphite source
of Vittangi, we look forward with confidence to the court’s decision.”
