Wall Street was down slightly with fears over potential interest rate hikes returning.

Comments from US Federal Reserve chairman Kevin Warsh highlighted the risk of rising inflation which saw the S&P 500 slide slightly.

The Nasdaq was down 0.38 per cent and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.21 per cent.

US investors are now awaiting employment rate information data and major corporate earnings to gain a better understanding of the strength of the economy.

The S&P/ASX 200 closed up on Friday, gaining 54.10 points or 0.60% to 9,092.30. Over the five days last week, the index has gained 0.37% and is currently 2.20% off of its 52-week high.

However,  futures markets are suggesting a 0.4 per cent slide on opening.

Meanwhile, the World Gold Council (WGC) has noted that record gold prices outpaced rising mining costs in the first quarter of 2026.

Despite cost inflation, the quarter remained exceptionally profitable for the gold mining industry, the WGC reported.

On the market news front:

Austal’s (ASX: ASB) results for the financial year ended 30 June 2026 saw revenue surpass $2 billion mark. Up 11 per cent year-on-year driven by continued ramp-up of shipbuilding in USA and Australia and a strong order book.

The Agency Group Australia’s (ASX: AU1) FY26 delivered record GCI, continued revenue growth and improved underlying earnings.
