A medical centre in Melbourne has made a mistake giving people saline (salt water solution) instead of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Around 30 people attending the Deepdene Surgery received the saline solution, which is harmless.
The medical centre said the mistake was made when “empty vaccine vials were used for preparing some of the syringes intended for vaccination”.
“An injection of pure saline is harmless,” the medical centre reassured patients.
The clinic discovered the error at 1:30 pm on Sunday September 29 and immediately contacted he Department of Health and Surveillance of Adverse Effects Following Vaccination in the Community (SAEFVIC).
Patients who received the wrong vaccine and need their first does will be offered another appointment this weekend.
