Metal Hawk (MHK) has kicked off its exploration activities for this year at its Berehaven nickel project in the West Australian goldfields.

Towards the end of last year, the company discovered high-grade massive nickel sulphide at Commodore South, located 500 metres southwest of the Commodore prospect within the project area.

Aircore drilling in this area intersected highly weathered ultramafic rocks similar to those identified at Commodore.

While assays from this work are pending, Metal Hawk said the lithologies encountered at Commodore South appear to be a continuation of the mineralised and structurally offset Commodore ultramafic unit.

Subsequently, the forward plan is to test this zone at depth, initially with two to three reverse circulation drill holes.

The company has also begun testing a number of target stratigraphic horizons trending north-northwest through the western half of the under-explored Berehaven project with 6000 metres of aircore drilling planned.

Assay results from aircore drilling undertaken in this area at the end of last year are pending for 86 aircore holes.

Metal Hawk is also preparing to undertake ground electromagnetic surveys later this month, with several priority target areas identified for moving loop and fixed loop electromagnetic surveys.

Geological logging from AC drilling will be used to help focus and prioritise these surveys.

Shares were up 21.8 per cent to the round of the day, climbing to 33.5 cents.
