Metalicity (MCT) has launched a maiden exploration program at its Mt Surprise lithium project in North Queensland.

The company said its initial exploration activities would focus on geological field mapping and rock chip sampling from prospective lithologies.

The program will begin with a thorough field review of the Mt Surprise area, including detailed mapping and the collection of rock chip samples.

Metalicity said it considered the Mt Surprise project to be prospective for lithium mineralisation, with granites in the area “clearly fertile” to produce lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatites.

The company will also use the field program to explore for base metals, including copper and gold mineralisation occurrences and prospectivity identified during a desktop historical review.

Metalicity Managing Director Justin Barton said the company was excited to begin the fieldwork activities and follow up on the historical rock chips samples on the tenure.

“This initial program is also designed to target new pegmatites and potential lithium mineralisation to assist with future targeted exploration programs,” Mr Barton said.

Once samples are collected, they will be sent to a laboratory in Townsville to test for lithium and other valuable minerals. Several samples will undergo mineralogical analysis to determine the minerals present.

Metalicity last traded at 0.4 cents at 2:55 pm AEDT.
