Australian hi-tech company Micro-X (ASX:MX1) has received a $780,000 purchase order from two Asian Governments, to help tackle the coronavirus.
Micro-X distributor Carestream Health received the order.
The purchase requires urgent delivery of the Revolution Nano technology. Micro-X says it has the capacity to fulfil these orders in the next four weeks.
The Revolution Nano is an ultra-lightweight digital medical x-ray system for the healthcare market.
How x-rays help fight the coronavirus
While the normal early-stage diagnosis of coronavirus is done with a blood test, a chest x-ray can be used to determine the severity of the illness.
Like pneumonia, a chest x-ray is used to detect fluid in the lungs, particularly with patients presenting with severe respiratory distress.
“While these are terrible circumstances with the coronavirus epidemic spreading so quickly, we are pleased that our equipment will soon be able to assist medical teams with their response in affected countries,” Managing Director Peter Rowland said.
“Chest X-rays are a key tool in monitoring the progression of the pneumonia-like symptoms of severe coronavirus infection,” he added.
Micro-X said that x-rays are being deployed in many countries to meet the need for the growing numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases.
“Mobile x-ray imaging units offer a flexibility of use most suited to the requirements of infection control procedures and also the nature of temporary hospital quarantine buildings,” Peter explained.
The company is working with supply chain partners to increase its ability to any future requirements to deliver Nano in a very short time frame.
However, it cannot and will not estimate if any future such Nano orders will be received.
Micro-X is up 38.7 per cent on the market this afternoon, selling shares for 21.5¢ apiece at 2:57 pm AEDT.
