E-sports business Mogul continues to cause a storm in the Australian gaming scene after announcing Australia’s largest cash prize tournament for PC game Apex Legends.

‘The Australian Apex Open’ tournament boasts a $35,000 prize pool and will run from April 15 to May 19.

This announcement comes after Mogul recently partnered with multi-rostered team Avant Gaming and the Adelaide Crows e-sports team.

Respawn Entertainment’s ‘battle-royale’ styled game Apex Legends was named the second most popular PC game globally, after Epic Game’s phenomena Fortnite.

Mogul Chief of Strategy Jamie Skella says the tournament is a first of its kind, allowing all Australians to compete for free without a select invitation.

“We’re excited to bring Apex to Australia in a big way, and expect to be running similar regionally focused launch events to drive early exposure in other new markets as we enter them in the near future,” he said.

Earlier this year, Apex Legends garnered 2.5 million players less than a day after launch.

In February, Apex Legends reached 50 million players.
