Monadelphous inks $200M contract with Woodside to help build Pluto LNG – but will it make Scarborough cheaper?

Monadelphous (ASX:MND) has flagged its receipt of a $200M contract with Woodside Energy (ASX:WDS).

Located in the Burrup, the company will assist with “mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and commissioning works” for Train 1 of Pluto.

Trains refer to different sections of a large gas project, essentially. I’ve never quite been able to figure out why they’re called trains.

Notably, the works are keystone for the larger and more controversial Scarborough project.

Monadelphous’s works at Pluto’s Train 1 facility near Karratha will allow gas from Scarborough to be processed using Pluto facilities. Scarborough was recently shown to be hundreds of millions of dollars more expensive than thought, or, initially reported.

“We are pleased to continue to support Woodside and build on our reputation for the delivery of safe and reliable construction services, which Monadelphous has previously performed at the Pluto LNG project,” Monadelphous MD Zoran Bebic said.

MND last traded at $12.56.
