MPower Group (MPR) has successfully connected a five-megawatts (MW) solar project to the national electricity grid at Kadina in South Australia.

The grid connection follows the commissioning phase that began last month.

The project is expected to reach commercial operations in the coming weeks, showing the start of when the project is capable of exporting power at full capacity to the grid.

Notably, this is the fifth 5MW solar project that the company has connected to the grid.

Last week, the renewable energy developer linked the South Hummocks project to the national electricity grid. MPower commenced the design and construction of South Hummocks and Kadina last year after signing contracts with Astronergy.

CEO Nathan Wise says the first connection and energisation of this 5MW solar project is a great milestone.

“It closely follows the connection of the South Hummocks solar project last week and is further testament to MPower’s expertise in delivering multiple projects in parallel,” he said.

“MPower is actively building a pipeline of 5MW solar project sites and currently has exclusivity over six sites. We are looking to create an initial portfolio of up to 20 renewable energy assets with an aggregate capacity of 100MWac and an estimated value of more. than $150 million once fully constructed,” he added.

On market close, MPower Group is down 3.85 per cent and is trading at 12.5 cents per share.
