New Energy Solar (NEW) has appointed Liam Thomas as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective October 1, 2021.

Mr Thomas will be succeeding John Martin who has resigned to take up a position as CEO of renewable energy development company, Windlab.

Mr Thomas has said he was excited to be assuming the role of CEO.

“I look forward to working closely with the board to execute on the strategic priorities we have identified to realise the value of our high-quality portfolio,” he said.

Mr Thomas joined New Energy in March 2016 and is currently Chief Investment Officer, having overseen the acquisition of the company’s solar assets.

He has 17 years’ experience in the renewable energy, infrastructure and agribusiness sectors, working with the likes of Origin Energy (ORG), Orica (ORI) and Aurizon (AZJ).

Mr Thomas has a Bachelor of Agribusiness and Master of Science from Curtin University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne.

Chairman Jeff Whalan is pleased to have Mr Thomas take on this new role.

“The board of NEW is very pleased with the appointment of Liam Thomas to the role of CEO of the company,” Mr Whalan said. “Liam has been with the business since its initial investments in North Carolina and has a deep understanding of the whole portfolio.

“We appreciate (Mr Martin’s) dedication and commitment to the business and wish him well in his new role. Given his deep understanding of the renewable energy sector and of the NEW portfolio, John will remain on the board as a Director of NEW.”

New Energy was down 1.76 per cent on the market with shares trading at 83.5 cents at 1:18 pm AEST.
