Nickel sulphide explorer Nordic Nickel’s (NNL) first diamond drillhole has confirmed an “extensive” nickel sulphide system at its flagship Pulju project in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt of northern Finland.

Assays from its maiden diamond drillhole at the Hotinvaara prospect confirmed “significant” scale and endowment within nickel sulphide at the project, returning hits including 94.15 metres at 0.2 per cent nickel from 6.4 metres.

The assays confirmed the mineralised zones extend beyond the mineral resource estimate (MRE) envelope, while the grades were consistent with the MRE in the area.

“These first assays from our maiden diamond drilling program have added to the excitement around the scale and endowment of the nickel sulphide system at Pulju and its significant growth potential,” Nordic Nickel Managing Director Todd Ross said.

“Excitingly, this hole provides our first insight into the potential for mineralisation below the existing mineral resource, which was based entirely on historical drilling and extends to a maximum depth of 500 metres with 81 per cent of the MRE in the top 250 metres.

“The clear implication of this is that the historical drilling has hardly scratched the surface of the Hotinvaara prospect, which itself makes up just two per cent of Nordic’s land package at Pulju.”

Exploring 22,000 metres, phase one of the project is focused on a dual exploration strategy of targeting geophysical anomalies.

“This is an important first hole for Nordic Nickel which confirms we have a potentially world-class asset at Pulju,” Mr Ross said.

“It provides clear evidence of the potential to expand the current MRE at Hotinvaara, while also confirming the significant nickel sulphide endowment of the system.”

The company has completed 16 drill holes for 10,966 metres at Hotinvaara, with batches of samples regularly submitted for assaying. Results are expected to be received within four weeks.

Nordic has planned to continue the drilling program to expand the existing Hotinvaara MRE.
