Novonix (NVX) is partnering with Emera Technologies to develop and manufacture energy storage systems.

Novonix is a developer and supplier of high-performance materials, equipment and services, aiming to support the global deployment of lithium-ion battery technologies.

Emera Technologies is owned by Canadian-listed Emera Inc., a multinational energy holding company, which held more than CA$32 billion (A$32.4 billion) in assets in 2019. The partnership is with Novonix’s wholly owned subsidiary, Novonix Battery Technology Solutions, and will focus on the North America market.

The Emera Technologies and Novonix teams have been developing a battery pack using custom manufacturing and control systems to support Emera’s BlockEnergy microgrid platform, which supplies solar power directly to homes.

Emera Technologies first launched its microgrid power and battery business, BlockEnergy, in 2020 as the first utility-owned community microgrid platform.

“This project brings the opportunity to partner on not only the development but also manufacturing of new battery systems with significant market opportunities. The target market is not limited to the United States but will also include a focus on opportunities and customers here in Canada,” said co-founder and Chief Executive of Novonix, Dr Chris Burns.

Novonix is up 15.3 per cent, trading at $3.32 at 1:12 pm AEDT.
