Hearing technology company Nuheara (NUH) has received two patents from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its hearing and accessory technologies.

The first patent, titled “System for configuring a hearing device”, discloses a system for configuring a self-fitting hearing device.

The second patent, “Audio Accessory”, discloses an audio transmitter that receives external audio and transmits it wirelessly to an audio-reproducing device such as an earbud.

Nuheara Chief Product Office Alan Davies said the US market was an “important and attractive” geographical market for the company.

“The granting of these two patents in the US will help protect the company’s innovations in that market, as the market now opens for our self-fit hearing aids,” Dr Davis said.

“We will continue to file patents and increase our patent portfolio in the US and other markets as we work to push the barriers of unassisted hearing technologies.”

These patents follow Nuheara receiving clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration for its self-fitting over-the-counter hearing aid, HP Hearing PRO.

HP Hearing PRO combines medical-grade hearing aid technology with wireless earbud features into a multifunctional device.

It will be sold in the US and online through the likes of Amazon.com, Best Buy and Crutchfield, and in retail stores.

Nuheara was up 9.09 per cent on the ASX, with shares trading at 30 cents at midday AEDT.
