Ora Gold (OAU) has kicked off an air core drilling program at the Abernethy gold prospects within its Garden Gull Project in Western Australia.

The program across the Abernethy Shear zone on the eastern margin of the Abbotts Greenstone belt has been designed to define near surface gold potential and basement mineralisation.

According to the company, this shear zone is one of the best-defined mineralised structures in this particular belt and has been targeted by previous explorers.

In particular, OAU is planning to target newly interpreted zones of mineralisation at the Kingswood prospect, near where Doray Minerals intersected gold mineralisation over a strike length of 1.6 kilometres between 2011 and 2012.

Around 30 drill holes are planned to target a vertical depth of 70 metres for 2100 metres.

Depending on weather conditions and ground access, OAU also plans to undertake infill drilling at Transylvania, East Crown Prince and the northern part of the Lydia shear zone, all located north of Abernethy.

Shares were trading steady at 1.7 cents at 2:02pm AEDT.
