Orbital Corporation (OEC) has inked a new engine development contract with defence tech specialist Anduril Industries.

OEC said California-based Anduril was one of the fastest-growing defence companies in the world.

The new contract — worth around $3 million — will see Orbital UAV develop a new and larger engine configuration for Anduril’s future propulsion requirements.

First prototype engines are planned to be supplied to Anduril for ground testing before January 2024.

Following that, if trials are successful, both parties have agreed to engage in further contract negotiations to bring the prototypes into flight and production-ready systems.

In March, Orbital UAV announced it signed a continuation contract worth $2.08 million with a major Singapore customer.

OEC Managing Director and CEO Todd Alder at the time said this was another step in the right direction for the company.

“The contract continuation represents another positive milestone in this new UAV engine program for our prestigious Singapore customer,” he said.

“Engineering work continues to progress as planned, moving us towards initial production later this year.”

Orbital UAV has emerged as a leading designer and manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) engine systems.

Shares in OEC were up 9.68 per cent to 17 cents at 10:36 am AEST.
