Orion Minerals (ORN) has identified new high-grade priority drill targets on the Carolusberg – Koperberg complex at the Okiep Copper Project (OCP).

The Okiep Copper Project lies 570 kilometres north of Cape Town in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.

The Carolusberg–Koperberg complex was first discovered in 1680, and it has been periodically mined from 1850 to 2001.

These targets were identified via ongoing due diligence investigations and consist of both shallow and deeper workings.

The shallow targets are defined by basic rock outcrops with visible copper oxide mineralisation and historically mined areas.

The deeper targets are defined by large undrilled areas west and east of the Carolusberg Deep complex.

“Using modern 3D geographical information system (GIS) modelling, we are able to get a better understanding of the geological controls which assist in identifying high priority targets for drill testing,” CEO and Managing Director Errol Smart commented.

“Our attention at OCP is now turning to identifying high-quality targets for undiscovered high-grade deposits such as those historically discovered in the Okiep district including the Okiep Mine which yielded 907,000 tonnes of sulphide ore at 21 per cent copper,” he said.

“We are focusing on similar geological settings to that of Okiep and have identified high-priority targets to be tested on the BCC property which is currently under option to Orion,” he added.

Orion is up 5.71 per cent on the market and shares are trading at 3.7 cents at 1:44 pm AEST.
