Video game developer PlaySide Studios (PLY) has made Paramount Studios an offer it can’t refuse and secured a licence for ‘The Godfather’.

PlaySide will develop and publish a video game, based on the 1972 film classic – directed by Francis Ford Coppola, which, in turn, was inspired by the 1969 novel by Mario Puzo.

Under the multi-year agreement, PlaySide will develop the title to publish globally. It will free-to-play on iOS and Android devices.

“The Godfather is the quintessential crime movie and to be able to secure this license is testament to the highly respected brand we have built over the past nine years,” said CEO Gerry Sakkas.

“To be trusted with this licence, PlaySide has again demonstrated the confidence leading global movie studios have in us to deliver a high-quality product. As an avid Godfather fan, I am eager to show the world a true Godfather experience on mobile that we believe will appeal to audiences across multiple generations.”

The company has not detailed the financial terms of the agreement but stated it includes several licence payments to Paramount during the development phase and a profit-sharing arrangement following the release of the game.
