PointsBet (PBH) has been given the green light to launch in Louisiana.

The company has developed a scalable cloud-based wagering platform, offering innovative sports and racing wagering products, advance deposit wagering on racing and iGaming.

Today, PBH told investors its subsidiary, PointsBet Louisiana, received launch authorisation from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, enabling the first bet to be taken in the state.

It marks the fourth state launch under partnership with Penn National Gaming announced back in August 2019 which was extended in March 2021.

PointBet US CEO Johnny Aitken said the team is excited to be live in the pelican state, noting it is the company’s twelfth state of online operations.

“The sports community of Louisiana, one that our very own brand ambassador Drew Brees is very familiar with, is unmatched with their devotion and passion for their local teams,” he said.

“We look forward to delivering Louisiana sports fans, from Bourbon Street to the Bayou, our fast, premium sports betting products”.

Mr Aitken also said that the timing of the launch is perfect as the NFL and CFB season is in “full swing”.

Today’s news follows launches in New Jersey, Iowa, Illinois, Colarado, Michigan, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and Kansas.

Shares in PointsBet were down 3.17 per cent and trading at $1.99 at 11:02 am AEST.
