  • Prairie Lithium’s construction of the direct lithium extraction (DLE) facility is nearing completion in Saskatchewan.
  • Fully de-risked path to revenue at gamechanging Canada project, with scalable development model giving significant upside.
  • Company has strategic positioning in global lithium supply chain.

Prairie Lithium (ASX: PL9) is on target for first production at its namesake project later this year, with construction of the building to house its commercial-scale direct lithium extraction (DLE) unit now nearing completion in Saskatchewan, Canada, marking a key milestone toward first production.

With the building’s interior on-track to be completed in second half CY26, installation of production equipment will be undertaken in the second and third quarters prior to commissioning production in the final quarter.

Prairie’s recent milestones follow the successful completion of the drilling of production and disposal wells,  installation of power lines and transformers and the wrapping up of major structural works.

The explorer’s managing director, Paul Lloyd, said the collective breakthroughs have seen Prairie positioning itself to become a leading North American lithium brine producer supplying global battery markets.

“This update marks a critical step as we execute the construction that prepares us for commissioning and first production. With the DLE facility nearing completion and equipment installation scheduled in the coming months, Prairie Lithium is firmly on track to deliver first production in Q4 2026,” he said.

“Importantly, 100% of phase one production is secured under a binding offtake agreement, providing revenue visibility and reducing project risk.”

The Saskatchewan project is also benefiting from a $10 million strategic contribution from offtake partner South Korea’s Hydro Lithium, which further lowers capital requirements and strengthens the development.

“We believe Prairie Lithium is well-positioned to become one of the first lithium brine producers in North America, supplying a rapidly growing global market. Beyond phase one, our scalable strategy provides a clear pathway to expand production and deliver long-term value,” Mr Lloyd said.

He said Prairie is emerging at a critical time in the global energy transition, with lithium demand continuing to grow rapidly due to electrification, electric vehicle adoption, and energy storage expansion.

Under the agreement with Hydro, the South Korean firm will convert the phase one production into battery-grade lithium, which will be sold into established Asian battery supply chains.

The Prairie MD also highlighted the benefits of the lithium company’s proven, repeatable pad-by-pad development model. The key growth drivers include a large 4.6 million tonne lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) resource base and the potential to expand offtake volumes with Hydro Lithium.

PL9 is up +2.70% today, to 19¢. Mkt cap $6.919M.
