R3D Resources (R3D) has struck 0.62 per cent copper mineralisation at its Tartana open pit in Queensland.

The company completed a 28-hole reverse circulation drilling program for 1620 metres, targeting northern oxide mineralisation.

Results from drilling included 77 metres at 0.62 per cent copper and 12 metres at 0.84 per cent copper.

R3D said overall drilling and resource estimation supported the idea there is a large, moderate grade mineralised copper system below and to the north of the historical shallow open pit.

“The drilling results highlight the potential for a significant primary copper resource below and to the north of the existing open pit with part of this potential to be realised in the updated primary copper resource estimation,” R3D Managing Director Stephen Bartrop said.

“Meanwhile the initial drill results from the northern oxide zone indicate potential for shallow copper oxide mineralisation that may be suitable for copper sulphate production and we await the pending assays.”

The company also drilled three 100m reverse circulation holes to enable the estimate of the copper resource.

Bluespoint Mining Services completed a mineral resource estimation based on the results of the shallow drilling program, including historical data, returning a 0.2 per cent copper cut-off grade.

The total inferred and indicated resource was estimated at 1.93 million tonnes at 0.56 per cent copper for 10,827 tonnes of contained copper.

Shares in R3D Resources held steady at 6 cents as of 10:40 am AEDT.
