Red Dirt Metals (RDT) has reported its first-pass metallurgical test work using a pegmatite sample from the Mt Ida lithium project in Western Australia.

The company said the sample was taken from drill core that represents a full cross section of the Sister Sam pegmatite, from the hanging wall through to the footwall contacts.

The test work recorded a headline recovery of 74 per cent lithium oxide to 6.2 per cent lithium oxide concentrate, utilising DMS-Flotation flowsheet.

Dense media separation also recovered 50 per cent lithium oxide to a 6.08 per cent lithium oxide concentrate.

The company is planning further test work to improve recovery and optimisation of flowsheet.

PRIMERO Engineering will oversee the next phase of metallurgical test work.

The next stage will use multiple composite samples from feed material, sourced from diamond drill holes being completed at the Sister Sam and Timoni pegmatite intrusives.

“One of the major risks in any mining project is the quality of the ore and its amenability to utilising standard extraction technology to produce a saleable product,” Managing Director Matthew Boyes said.

“With this first round of sighter testwork RDT has taken a massive step forward in mitigating that risk and demonstrating the Mt Ida pegmatites contain a significant portion of the Lithium bearing Spodumene which is recoverable into a high-quality and high-purity concentrate.”

Shares in Red Dirt Metals were trading 2.13 per cent lower at 46 cents each as of 11:37 am AEST.
