Roots Sustainable Agricultural Technologies has secured an A$87,000 order for its Root Zone Temperature Optimisation (RZTO) technology and its new heat exchange stub.

The order comes from Israeli medicinal hemp producer UNIVO who seeks to control soil temperatures in its pots and grow bags.

UNIVO is a medicinal hemp company who manufactures and distributes innovative products and dosage forms for hemp-based products.

Under the agreement, Roots will use its patent-protected heat exchange stub to install its RZTO technology into thousands of hemp pots at UNIVO’s growing facilities.

“Roots’ heat exchange stub is ideal for high-value greenhouse crops such as cannabis, where optimal soil temperatures have been proven to increase crop quality and yield year-round,” Roots CEO Dr Sharon Devir said.

The heat exchange stub significantly lowers installation and maintenance costs of Roots’ technology and is designed to be inserted into the tops of pots and grow bags.

The stub enables the mobility of pots and grows bags during and between growing cycles while chains of stubs with insulated pipes in-between can be used for row installations.

UNIVO made the order following an in-house pilot trial at Roots’ research hub in Israel. During the pilot, the stub effectively maintained soil temperatures in pots despite extreme air temperatures.

“The stub enables producers to stabilise soil temperatures to mitigate the effects of external weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, without requiring additional heating and cooling systems within the greenhouse or nursery,” Dr Sharon continued.

Roots are confident the sale to UNIVO is a testament to its RZTO technology and its new heat exchange stub will open up new opportunities.

The installation of the technology into UNIVO’s pots is due this month and is expected to be completed in December this year.
