Roots Sustainable Agricultural Technologies (ROO) has entered an authorised representation and distribution deal with Unicorn International’s agricultural division.

The two-year agreement will see Roots and Unicorn-Farm Tech work together to market, sell, install and service Roots’ proprietary technology systems in Oman.

Roots is an Israel-based company that developed the Root Zone Temperature Optimisation (RZTO) technology to address problems the agriculture industry faces such as water shortages and plant temperature.

RZTO optimises plant physiology for increased growth, productivity and quality by stabilising the plant’s root zone temperature.

During the initial term of the agreement, Unicorn will promote and sell Root’s products and services while offering demonstrations to potential customers.

The deal marks Roots’ entry into Oman and strongly aligns with its ongoing international expansion plans.

Roots said having an established in-country party such as Unicorn “considerably broadens” its international reach.

“Roots continues to make strong progress on a number of fronts, particularly across the Middle East, which has the potential to be a very lucrative region for the company,” CEO Boaz Wachtel said.

The company noted that Middle Eastern governments considered food security to be a top priority, including reducing the dependence on food imports. Roots said this provided it with a “major opportunity”.

As a testament to the international recognition of Roots’ innovative tech, Co-Founder and Executive Director Sharon Devir was invited to present at the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, which was held in Egypt from November 6 until November 18.

Dr Devir highlighted the ongoing shift towards regenerative agriculture, under a whole food system approach which can be achieved through the use of Roots’ technology.

Furthermore, the company was selected as a finalist in the Merage DeserTech Competition and named as one of the five most promising technology companies to impact desert food production.

Roots said the nomination further validated its technology and solution potential, and it would also leverage the awards for ongoing marketing and business development initiatives, with a focus on the Middle East and Africa.

Company shares ended the day trading flat at 0.2 cents.
