Sayona Mining (SYA) has received the final permit award for its North American Lithium (NAL) operation in Québec, effectively de‐risking the project.
This award comes ahead of Sayona’s planned recommencement of production in the first quarter of 2023.
The company said the completion of the permitting process followed an “extensive process” by its Canadian arm to ensure the successful restart of NAL’s lithium mine and concentrator in compliance with all necessary environmental regulations and obligations.
The latest regulatory approval is among more than 130 permits obtained by Sayona from provincial and federal government authorities, including the Ministry of Environment, the Fight Against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, to resume mining operations.
SYA Vice President, Environment, Annie Blier said the company was on track to become the only producer of lithium concentrate in Québec.
“This is a very promising position for our region, which puts us at the forefront of the emerging energy transition,” Ms Blier said.
“I am very proud that Abitibi‐Témiscamingue will become one of the catalysts of this global revolution.”
The company has significantly upgraded the NAL complex equipment and facilities to ensure the successful optimisation of production.
At the end of October, procurement was 98 per cent complete, with construction activities ramping up and mining contractors onsite.
Sayona will continue to advance its Abitibi lithium hub centred on NAL, with the company also recently launching a pre‐feasibility study (PFS) for the potential production of lithium carbonate at the operation.
Shares in Sayona were up 3.49 per cent and trading at 22 cents at 12:41 pm AEDT.
