Sayona Mining (SYA) has reported its North American Lithium (NAL) operation in Québec, Canada, was on track for a March restart.

The company said it had completed 96 per cent of the project’s construction at the end of January.

As part of its operation, Sayona is now feeding the ore into the crushing plant, and the company said the project was set to meet its budget guidelines.

Sayona said equipment had also now been completed and delivered to site, including the belt filter, vacuum pump and WHIMS rectifier and reducer.

The project team is now working towards its next intermediate milestone of the start‐up of process operations. This will comprise the circulation of ore through the entire system, including crushing, sorting, grinding and separation.

The commissioning activities are scheduled to wrap up this month, with several vendor representatives onsite to assist.

“Progress to date has been excellent, and I congratulate the project team for delivering the NAL restart on time and on budget — a remarkable achievement in the currently inflationary environment and amid supply chain pressures,” Sayona Managing Director Brett Lynch said.

“With lithium demand continuing to rise and supply limited, NAL is in an excellent position to benefit as we move towards becoming North America’s leading integrated lithium producer.”

Meanwhile, Sayona has been hosting meetings with mayors and residents near the operation to discuss the future of ore transportation between NAL and the nearby Authier lithium project.

Further public consultations have also been planned to enhance both projects to benefit local communities, including an electrification plan for NAL, while the company has also been contributing to the development of neighbouring communities.

Sayona said it expected the first shipment of spodumene concentrate from NAL to occur in July, with four shipments targeted for the first half of FY24.

The company is targeting total production of between 85,000 tonnes to 115,000 tonnes during this period.

Sayona Mining was down 1.14 per cent and trading at 21.5 cents at 12:41 pm AEDT.
