Silex Systems’s (SLX) subsidiary, Translucent, has received positive trial data for a new 5G filter device.

IQE’s new high frequency filter product, called IQepiMo, builds on Translucent’s cREO technology. In 2018, IQE purchased the technology from Translucent through an option and licence agreement.

When compared to earlier technology, data from customer and partner device trials indicated significant improvement in the performance of the filter device at the top end of the frequency range used in current 5G applications.

Under the agreement between the two companies, Translucent is eligible for minimum annual royalties for the cREO technology. Additionally, a perpetual royalty of at least 3 per cent will be payable to Translucent on the sales revenues from any IQE products that use the technology.

The first minimum royalty payment of US$400,000 (roughly $A516,000) was received in March 2020, with the second payment for the 2020 calendar year due within the coming weeks.

The company says the 5G industry is finding it difficult to achieve high levels of performance at these higher frequencies using conventional filter technology.

Silex believes the new IQepiMo template technology offers customers a path to overcoming these challenges, while still using their current 5G infrastructure and processes.

Additional trials of the new high frequency filter product are continuing with IQE’s partners.

Silex Systems is down 4.25 per cent, trading at $1.24 at 11:57 am AEDT.
