Spacetalk (SPA) is planning to establish a mobile operator service in the United States under the newly developed brand Jumpy SIM.

The service, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), will provide networked SIM plans specifically designed for smart wearable devices and low data consumers.

It will use the mobile operator infrastructure of a leading, but yet unnamed, US cellular network.

Once launched, Spacetalk will bundle a Jumpy SIM mobile network SIM with its Spacetalk Adventurer smartwatch to be sold in the US via e-commerce and mass market retailer channels.

This collaboration will simplify and enhance the consumer proposition and user experience, as well as generate new and additional recurring revenue for Spacetalk.

Due to commercial and competitive constraints, Spacetalk is yet to announce pricing but it is believed it will generate a gross margin of US$4-$5 (A$5.56-$6.95) per month, per user.

Spacetalk intends to launch Jumpy SIM in the US before the end of June with services in other countries currently under investigation.

“We are excited about the coming launch of Jumpy SIM and the opportunities it presents for the company to enhance our offerings and to capture more value from our products and services,” CEO Mark Fortunatow said.

“Not only will Jumpy SIM significantly boost our wearables customer proposition and experience, but it will also strengthen our core business economics.

“This is a very exciting initiative and is the culmination of a long period of analysis and
development. We expect Jumpy SIM to provide a key and strong platform for future growth.”

Spacetalk was up 2.27 per cent on the market with shares trading at 11.3 cents at 12:45 pm AEST.
