Tech company MGM Wireless has signed a retail sales agreement with Officeworks to sell its SPACETALK smartphone, watch and GPS device.

Officeworks will begin stocking the SPACETALK watch on its website from October 1, with a launch across its stores in the following week.

In the recent months MGM has significantly increased its retail store distributions of SPACETALK in New Zealand, adding 118 Harvey Norman, JB Hi-Fi and Noel Leeming stores.

There are now 189 stores in New Zealand selling SPACETALK and 483 stores in Australia.

“It’s fantastic to have another 167 physical retail locations for parents to see and have SPACETALK explained to them by a highly trusted retailer across Australia,” company CEO Mark Fortunatow said.

“During the back-to-school January, February and March months, many parents will be in Officeworks stores – so to have SPACETALK on display, explained to parents and available to purchase will be just brilliant,” he commented.

The SPACETALK smart watch allows parents to communicate with their children through 3G text messages and mobile calls without giving them access to the internet.

Therefore, popular social media apps such as Snapchat, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook cannot be used and accessed through the device.

Parents will also be able to block calls and messages from unknown numbers and will be notified if any unknown number tries to call.

The watch also boasts the likes of GPS tracking that can send timed updates on the child’s location. Parents will be notified if their child leaves a designated safe zone such as school or a friend’s house.

“Kid’s smartwatch mobile phones are becoming a successful category in their own right and we continue to be amazed by SPACETALK’s market acceptance in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K.,” Mark said.

Leading research and advisory company Gartner has predicted that the global wearables market will grow 26 per cent in 2019, with smartwatches representing about a third of the USD$42 billion market.
