SportsHero (SHO) has launched its initial esports prediction platform on WeChat China and executed an exclusive one-year Memorandum of Cooperation with the Wuhan Esports Association (WEA), China’s second largest gaming association.

The launch on WeChat China will allow users to interact and engage within their communities by competing in prediction competitions in both amateur and professional tournaments.

It will also enable the company to rapidly scale user growth with over one billion registered active users on the messaging app.

As a result of the launch, the WEA is looking to partner with SportsHero to develop an esports tournament management platform for all participant registration and community engagement for the esports leagues within their association.

SportsHero CEO Tom Lapping expects the Memorandum of Cooperation will “fast track the onboarding of esports gamers and potential commercial partners.”

“It is a huge credit to our recently appointed Head of esports China, Chen Fang Hui (Sherry), that she has been able to secure SportsHero’s first gaming agreement with the second largest esports association in China.”

The preliminary agreement with the WEA ensures the company will only exclusively deal with the WEA for all the prediction competitions and promote them throughout Wuhan, and the partnership will be looking to introduce and deliver advertising and sponsorship opportunities for these competitions.

The company has said it is well-positioned in the Chinese market, with significant contributing factors like the upcoming Asian esports games in China continuing to fuel mass adoption and interest in gaming and esports in China.

SportsHero has also said continued Chinese COVID lockdowns has created “a very conducive ecosystem for SportsHero’s China strategy”.

SportsHero shares were up 11.5 per cent, trading at 2.9 cents as of 10:50 am AEST.
