Sprintex’s (SIX) technology partner Aeristech has commissioned Sprintex’s e-compressor division to design two new electric compressors.

The first compressor will consist of a 160,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) ultra-high-speed two-stage e-compressor that is capable of high-pressure output for advanced fuel cell applications.

This compressor will enable a denser oxygen-rich air feed to the cell stack, offering higher efficiency for a fuel cell than is currently achievable.

The second compressor will involve the design of an ultra-speed heating ventilation and air condition (HVAC) refrigerant compressor that is suitable for domestic and industrial heat pump applications.

The compressor can also be used for battery, motor and system cooling as well as cabin airconditioning in electric vehicles.

It will roughly be eight kilowatts of input power and produce up to 35 kilowatts of heating capacity.

Aeristech will pay Sprintex RMB524,000 (A$111,868) in non-recurrent engineering fees and initial tooling development costs for the first two compressors. A 50 per cent deposit is payable prior to the commencement of work.

Design and validation work for both compressors is expected to begin immediately and be completed within 12 weeks.

Sprintex Managing Director Jay Upton said the company was excited to be chosen by Aeristech.

“We are proud to be chosen for this development by Aeristech Limited, who are currently considered a world leader in eCompressor and electric motor technology,” he said.

“I’m excited to have our team recognised in this current rapidly advancing market segment, as a competent energy technology design and development provider.”

Shares in Sprintex were up 24.6 per cent and were trading at 6.9 cents at 3:25 pm AEDT.
