Recent lab work has shown that sand from Suvo Strategic Minerals’ (SUV) Nova Silica Sands project can be used in glass manufacturing and foundry applications.

The kaolin and silica sand explorer completed an air-core drilling program at the project in late 2020 to test the depth extent of silica sands.

Under the program, Suvo drilled 44 vertical holes to around 20 metres depth, for a total of 920 metres.

Drilling intersected a mixture of aeolian, fluvial and marine sands and samples were recovered dry.

Importantly, the sighter testwork on these samples produced high-grade silica sand to 99.31 per cent silicon dioxide. Equally significant is the presence of fine-grained silica sand suitable for the high-value silica market.

Silica flour is a high-value product that is used as filler or in wellhead cement for the oil and gas industry.

Analysis of the remaining samples has commenced and will be used in the determination of a JORC compliant resource.

“Nova continues to surprise with the extensive historic exploration and current drilling data suggesting we have the opportunity for a very large multiple product asset including highly sought after AFS 60 particle-sized silica used in
the casting of electric vehicle components,” Chairman Robert Martin said.

“Suvo has refined the test work that is currently underway to include more detailed testing to help us understand the geology in greater detail, we are excited by Nova’s potential and look forward to updating the market once the full suite of tests are completed,” he added.

Work is now ongoing to define potential additional saleable products from continuing test work and to complete a maiden JORC-compliant resource.

On the market this afternoon, Suvo is up 4 per cent and is trading at 13 cents per share at 1:10 pm AEDT.
