Technology Metals (TMT) has recorded “outstanding” vanadium recoveries of up to 96 and 98 per cent, respectively, from the Yarrabubba and Gabanintha projects.

These projects lie within the Murchison Technology Metals Project (MTMP) which is situated to the south of Meekatharra in the mid-west region of Western Australia.

The roast-leach testwork was undertaken at leading kiln supplier FLSmidth’s (FLS) testing facility in Pennsylvania.

The testing began late last year and largely focused on assessing the performance of Yarrabubba ore as feed for the MTMP vanadium processing circuit.

Vanadium recoveries at Yarrabubba ranged between 85 and 95 per cent with a midpoint recovery of 90 per cent. When the temperature of the kiln was around 1275 degrees celsius, recoveries stood at 96 per cent.

At the Gabanintha project, enhanced vanadium recoveries of up to 98 per cent were recorded at an operating kiln temperature of around 1275 degrees celsius.

Technology Metals also recorded a vanadium recovery of 97 per cent after also 15 minutes in the batch kiln.

This work has confirmed industry-leading roast-leach vanadium recoveries for Yarrabubba and identified enhanced performance for Gabanintha.

“Completion of this work in collaboration with FLSmidth marks a key milestone for the MTMP, confirming industry leading vanadium recoveries across the extent of the project using standard processing technologies,” Managing Director Ian Prentice said.

“Outcomes of this comprehensive roast – leach testwork phase support delivery of an updated ore reserve estimate as a core component of the integration study, and importantly enable smooth progression to the implementation phase of the project,
accelerating the delivery of the world’s next large scale primary vanadium mine.”

According to Technology Metals, the outcomes of this work will significantly contribute to the MTMP ore reserve that is being prepared.

Once completed, the ore reserve will play a part in the integration study which will provide an integrated mining schedule, optimal sequencing of ore sources and output profile of both vanadium and ilmenite.

Shares in Technology Metals were up 7.45 per cent and were trading at 50.5 cents at 12:03 pm AEST.
