Tesoro Resources (TSO) has uncovered a new gold zone at the Ternera East Prospect, within the El Zorro Gold project in Chile.

Assay results from 549 surface trench channel samples delineated a new gold mineralised zone approximately 850 metres long and 300 metres wide, outcropping at surface and open in all directions.

Encouragingly, the geological features of the zone are similar to those at the adjacent Ternera Gold Deposit, with occurrences of El Zorro Tonalite (EZT) .

Specifically, the results define a total target gold zone associated with EZT, stretching from Drone Hill in the west to Ternera East, measuring over 1.2 kilometres east to west and 1.3 kilometres north to south.

Tesoro says the potential exists for mineralisation to continue to Toro Blanco in the north where favourable host rocks have been identified during mapping.

The Managing Director of Tesoro, Zeff Reeves, said the discovery more than doubles the surface gold footprint at Ternera.

Moving forward, the company says an initial drilling program at Ternera East will start up in the coming weeks.

Shares last traded in the red, down 12.8 per cent at 17 cents each.
